The Windsor Project

Mountains have always inspired me. When I was younger, I would spend entire weekends watching the yearly Everest expeditions on Discovery Channel, pouring through books about Mallory and Irvine's fateful journey to the world's highest peak, and drawing any landscape image that gave me an excuse to sketch a couple mountains in the background. As a result my career as a photographer has been shaped by opportunities focused on these giants in the sky.

That being said, my hometown is nowhere near any sort of mountain range, yet alone a hill. Windsor Ontario, sitting just north of the most southern point in Canada, could not get any flatter. I have always avoided capturing my home town because I never imagined the there could be anything special about a place where no sweeping mountain vistas could be seen.

Earlier this Spring, I was forced to cancel a backcountry trip to Alaska's Denali National Park due to COVID-19. Coupled with being stuck indoors for several months, reflection gave me the opportunity to see my hometown in a different light (no pun intended). Any place can be special. The streets of Windsor have hidden moments of beauty around every corner. For this reason I have started The Windsor Project.

Each week I will be posting images from a different location across Windsor-Essex. Everyone has that place that inspires them the most in our city. I encourage you to share those places in our hometown that are most special to you.
